Still Harboring Synthetic Fragrance? Time to Trade Up!

Even before I started working in the beauty industry, I loved the mood-changing effects of perfume. I was always searching for the fragrance that would match my personality well enough to become my signature scent, and I’d like to think that I got pretty close to curating my perfect perfume wardrobe while working as a beauty writer at InStyle. But the romance didn’t last long. Once I found out about the toxic ingredients that were in my lovely little bottles of fragrance, I couldn’t look at them the same way. For months they sat on a shelf, unused. Then one by one, I took one last whiff and tossed them for good.
Today I’m back in the game, hunting once more for my perfect perfume — but this time it’s natural. This fragrance from Honore des Pres is as close as I’ve come! And I recently got the opportunity to try the exquisite organic fragrances from Tsi-La Organics, which swept me up with their gorgeous mixes of spice, florals and fruits. I’d wear Tsi-La’s Ilang Ilang any day! My favorite characteristic of Tsi-La Organics fragrances is that they mix and match incredibly well, so you really can create your own signature scent. Tsi-La Organics fragrances are 95% organic and 100% natural.

Because we all know how hard it is to let go of old synthetic perfumes, this month there’s a little something extra in it for you, thanks to Tsi-La. We’re calling it the Perfume Amnesty. During the month of April, I’ll pick 4 readers to receive a scented treat from Tsi-La. The first three winners (chosen on Wednesdays 4/11, 4/18 and 4/25) will each receive four .65mL Tsi-La fragrance samples. The last winner, chosen on 5/2, will take home the grand prize: a set of four rollerball perfumes from Tsi-La, worth $95!
So what’s the catch? You’ve got to TOSS OUT YOUR SYNTHETICS!
You’re in the process of spring cleaning anyway, right? To enter this giveaway, leave a comment on this post telling me what synthetic perfume you threw out to detox your beauty routine, and let me know what your favorite scent style is. Are you a fan of fruity fragrances? Florals? Ambers? Woody or grassy scents? For an extra entry in the giveaway, leave a comment on the Beauty Is Wellness Facebook page as well. One winner will be chosen every Wednesday in April, with the grand prize winner selected on May 2.
So go ahead- throw out those synthetics and make room for new natural scents to kick off this season of fragrance! You’re going to fall in love with fragrance all over again…
CONGRATULATIONS to the 4/11 winner, Michelle Bennett, the 4/18 winner, Melinda Frank, and the 4/25 winner, Diana McLamore! And a big congrats to the 5/2 grand prize winner, Abigail Miller! Everyone did an amazing job cleaning out their synthetic perfumes!

Good for you for spreading the news about synthetic fragrances! You’re absolutely right, I’ve got to toss the ones I’m holding onto. I have a very tiny but slowly growing collection of natural fragrances (two… haha) and need to give up on the others. I’ve tossed out my Abercrombie & Fitch perfume and My Avon Outspoken (by Fergie) perfume. And if I find any others, I’ll throw them out, too. Thanks for the reminder to smell nice, and be natural about it
My favorite scent style is floral, clean, and maybe a little spicy. Thanks for the giveaway!
I mentioned on the Facebook oage that I want to toss out my old DKNY Be Delicious rollerball. I also want to get rid of an old rollerball of this Hello Kitty perfume! Love Hello Kitty, but the ingredients are not as cute!
I am tossing out KAT VON D’s Sinner perfume. I am ready to enjoy Tsi-La perfumes. I would love a few samples…I’d like to try Kesu and Fiori D’Arancio, which, according to the Personality test, is my scent.
Thank you for this wonderful opportunity!
Keisi,
The perfume finder is a great idea! Here’s the link for others who want to try it:

I’ve made the switch in every other part of my beauty routine, but my fragrances have been so hard to give up. Lately, I’ve just limited myself to one favorite: Calvin Klein Euphoria. But I know I’ve got to get rid of them all and this post is another gentle nudge…thanks! So, I’m throwing out the aforementioned Euphoria, plus Miss Dior Cherie, YSL Baby Doll, Michael Kors Very Hollywood, and several scents from Escada! I’d love to replace them with non-toxic ones and the perfume finder says I should try Kizes and Fiori D’Arancio. I generally like fruity and floral fragrances.
Great post. This is the last thing I need to change up. It’s hard to to test natural fragrances since you don’t find them in department stores. I love the scent of tuberose and gardenia. It will be hard to replace my favorites Petite Cherie by Annick Goutal and Marc Jacobs. But I’m looking forward to trying something new, natural and unique.
Hi Jolene! Thanks for stopping by my blog and so happy to come visit your site. I am loving Tsi-La … so many great jasmine scents, including the Ilang Ilang you mentioned. I am excited to discover more natural fragrances, starting with Tsi-La, and hope to completely detox my perfume plate soon. xoxo
Oh I’m so glad you already know about Tsi-La! I love your ‘natural beauty confessions’ series, and I’ll definitely be following!
Has the 4/11 winner been chosen? (Crossing my fingers!)
Our 4/11 winner is Michelle Bennett! Three more great giveaways to go…
Thanks for this post! It’s great to learn about Tsi-La and the advantages of natural fragrances. I really enjoy this blog. My standby fragrance has been Parfum 06130, which is floral, with notes of amber and citrus. I welcome the chance to try something new!
I love perfume samplers, so I was totally sold upon reading this post! I took you up on the challenge though, and I tossed my Lancome Tresor in Love, and a Jeanne Lanvin perfume. Can’t wait to give this organic line a shot
I have given up wearing synthetic fragrances. I haven’t bought any “beauty” products for myself at a drugstore, grocery or department store for several years. If I win, I prefer amber and floral scents.
I am glad to say I threw away my synthetic fragrance collection a month or two ago. Unfortunately, I didn’t take the picture of the revolution I made in my perfume shelf… The shelf suddenly became totally empty. I had 3 different types of Avon perfume (Avon Crystal Aura, Avon Urban Flowers (NY and London), I had Elizabeth Arden Mediterranean, Elizabeth Arden Green Tea. Not mentioning, some decorative cosmetics were thrown away too. I faced I had nothing in the end. And, then, natural eco-friendly wind went in into my daily beauty routine. Even luck came to my side! (:
I was one of the lucky winners of Tsi-La’s Perfume Annesty in facebook recently. After trying out the Living Flower Collection, I have to say, all of the Tsi-La perfumes are divine! It is sooo hard to choose the one best, but if I have to, I would really love to have a bottle of Fleur Sauvage or a rollerball perfume.
I am now in love with Tsi-La perfumes and Tsi-La company. So far, it is the best smells I have ever had the chance to smell! And I am spreading the news about amazingness of Tsi-La to my friends. The world should know about Tsi-La!
I really, really, really want to try the Tsi-La perfumes. I’d love a floral perfume for the Spring and Summer!
I’m really going to take it back to the old school days. Remember Red Door? Well I loved that perfume, I loved it because it had such a beautiful scent, but also because my big sister who was my Shero, used it…so of course, I since being a little girl I wanted to use the perfume my Shero used lol I used Red Door for ages. However, having cleaned house and going organic and natural, my Red Door was closed (pun intended). It was a bitter sweet decision because I not only loved the smell, it was a connection to my big sis. The good news? I got my sister to start using natural perfumes, trust me – that was a major accomplishment
Hi again, I forgot to mention, I am most drawn to the floral scents
I was did a big spring clean out and threw out all my synthetic perfumes but my favorite, stella. I have been looking for a natural replacement for a while, and would love to win!!! I like floral/amber scents
